Carlos Portillo is currently a second year doctoral student in the Health Psychology program. He received a B.S. in Psychology from UTEP. Generally, his research interests are related to mental health within special populations, more specifically, within Latinos and those with criminal backgrounds and substance abuse patterns. While working under Empower Change, Carlos has been involved with the Justice Council, working under the guidance of Dr. Eno Louden. Carlos has examined literature related to the development of mental health courts and other policies related mental health and the criminal justice system. Carlos hopes to pursue a degree in Clinical Psychology and aspires to have a career in a federal law enforcement setting where clinical psychology can be applied.
